Is Obama retaining the right to use [GASP!] “TORTURE”?

Even one of Obama’s Kool-Aid cheering section at the DailyKOS seems to be starting to get the inevitable hangover, and is reporting that Obama has apparently reserved the right to use enhanced interrogation techniques if he deems it necessary for national security!

The story at DailyKOS points to this passage from the Obama executive order on interrogation:

(i) to study and evaluate whether the interrogation practices and techniques in Army Field Manual 2 22.3, when employed by departments or agencies outside the military, provide an appropriate means of acquiring the intelligence necessary to protect the Nation, and, if warranted, to recommend any additional or different guidance for other departments or agencies...

Isn’t this is the guy who STILL claims that he has banned “torture”? He continues to rail against his predecessor as recently as May 21st, and his Administration at last check was still talking of pursuing prosecution of the Bush Justice Department for violation of whatever law they can get some activist liberal judge to interpret has been broken.

Tidbits I found really interesting:

I've been struggling desperately lately not to jump to the worst conclusions about where Obama is headed on interrogation and detention policies…

(Like they never jumped to conclusions about what Bush was doing, right?)

As difficult as it's becoming, I really want to give Obama the benefit of the doubt.

(When did they ever give Bush the benefit of the doubt on anything?)
